Las celebraciones comienzan con coloridas procesiones que salen de la iglesia de San Miguel y atraviesan la ciudad. Durante este tiempo los residentes asisten a misa y participan en procesiones diarias usando hipiles, trajes típicos mayas. Cozumel ha honrado a San Miguel Arcángel como su patrono desde 1848.
